LUNCH and LEADERS  

Please join us for this two part presentation featuring The Ohio State University. Part one is focused on the University's adoption of the LEED rating system. Part two will reveal progress on the OSU 2011 Solar Decathlon Team house.  


The Greening of Scarlet and Gray!

Part 1:

The Ohio State University is committed to being a leader in developing new and renovated buildings that use resources efficiently and create environments that promote building occupant health and comfort. 

Come and hear about the University’s recent existing LEED buildings including the new residence hall projects on the Columbus campus currently under construction and poised to receive LEED Silver certification.

Cunz Hall

Attendees will be able to:

  • Learn about green building projects at The Ohio State University
  • Understand the LEED project planning process in a large campus environment
  • Gain insight into LEED features for a campus residential project  

Speaker Bios:

Kai A. Landis serves as the Program Manager of Energy Management and Sustainability in the Office of Student Life at The Ohio State University managing Student Life’s strategy for sustainability including internal and external stakeholder engagement, performance reporting and management of student-focused sustainability initiatives.

Carlos Lugo is an NCIDQ certified interior designer, a registered architect in the State of Ohio and a LEED accredited professional.  He has over 16 years of experience designing spaces for the higher education market.  He currently serves as a coordinator of interior design services at The Ohio State University. 

Part 2:

Members of the OSU Solar Decathlon Team will be presenting information on the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon Competition and OSU's entry for the 2011 Solar Decathlon. In particular, this presentation will include the details of the competition, how the team has worked together to meet the deliverables, and the rationale/uniqueness of the architectural and engineering design of this particular entry.

2011 decathlon

Attendees will be able to:

  • To know 10 competitions for the 2011 US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon Competition and understand the reasons for the competition
  • To be able to identify 4 key architectural features of the 2011 OSU Solar Decathlon House
  • To be able to identify 4 ways in which the OSU Solar Decathlon Team's 2011 house saves energy over conventional houses
  • To identify the three main goals of the OSU Solar Decathlon Team
